Everyone’s pain is individual and can often be complex which is why I prefer to use a range of techniques throughout a session.
Treatments are specifically designed to treat acute & chronic musculoskeletal pain and are based on your medical history, initial consultation, presenting issues, and overall goals.
In addition to your treatment, I will carry out a full consultation, and orthopedic assessments (before and after treatments) where appropriate, and provide you with aftercare to put you in the driving seat of your recovery.
Your appointment doesn’t end when you leave, I do like to check in with you to see how you are post-treatment.
Advanced Clinical Bodywork
Realign and Rebalance the Neuromuscular System
Specific tests are used to isolate areas of dysfunction followed by precise movements that activate the nerve endings which can quickly result in a change to tissue, fascia, muscle, ligaments & tendons.
This incredible way of working realigns and rebalances the entire body. It addresses areas of restriction that other therapists often miss.
Clinical Bodywork (Advanced Training): A mix of tried and tested bodywork techniques, including soft tissue release, trigger & pressure point therapy, acupressure, amma fusion, shiatsu, mobilisations and muscle energy techniques.
Advanced Clinical Myofascial Release
Fascia links every structure within the body. This incredible 3-dimensional continuous web surrounds and connects everything within us from muscles, bones, blood vessels, nerves, organs, and lymphatic structures, even down to the cellular level. With over 250 million nerve endings, fascia is possibly our richest sensory organ providing an essential communication system throughout our body.
Healthy fascia is smooth and flexible and designed to stretch as we move but it can also become stuck and compress the muscles it surrounds due to limited physical activity, injury, surgery, trauma, repetitive movements that overwork one area of the body, inflammation, poor posture, and emotional/mental stress. Once the fascia starts to stick, it applies an enormous amount of pressure on other areas of the body causing pain and restricted movement.
Fascia can be the cause of many issues but unfortunately, it can’t be seen on any of the standard medical tests performed today such as MRI, X-ray, Scans etc yet it can often be the cause of ongoing, unidentified pain.
Advanced Myofascial Release uses a combination of direct and indirect hands-on approaches including cranial, visceral manipulation, and structural integration techniques to release restrictions in connective tissue causing pain and restricted movement.
The techniques I use can have profound effects whether dealing with acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain, auto-immune disorders, restricted movement, emotional/mental tension or trauma, ongoing inflammatory processes, poor posture, illness/disease or overall integration of body and mind.
Craniosacral Therapy Techniques
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a form of bodywork that focuses on the craniosacral and fascial systems of the body. The therapy was pioneered, and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger.
The CranioSacral system consists of the brain, spinal cord, meninges, ventricles, cerebrospinal fluid, cranial & facial bones, and the sacrum. This incredible network is responsible for maintaining the environment in which the central nervous system functions and requires an uninterrupted flow of fluid to send impulses to the connective tissue (fascia) which allows the brain, endocrine, digestion, respiration, circulation, and musculoskeletal systems to function optimally.
Imbalances in this area have a direct impact on the central nervous system which contributes to a range of symptoms including sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, and physical pain.
The session involves light touch in which the electrical energy of my hands monitors & assesses the cranial rhythm at different parts of the body. By releasing restrictions, your nervous system relaxes which can result in an overall feeling of well-being, reduced pain, enhanced energy, and an overall boost in health and immunity. Evidence suggests that emotional trauma may also be released during CST sessions.
Contraindications include:
- Recent concussion.
- Cerebral swelling
- Structural defects in the cerebellum such as Arnold-Chiari malformation.
- Brain aneurysm.
- Traumatic brain injury.
- Blood clots
- Any disorder that causes instability of cerebral fluid pressure, flow or build-up
ScarWork
ScarWork treatment can improve the health and texture of scars caused by surgery, accidents or burns.
It is never too late to improve a scar especially if they are sunken, uneven, puckered, painful, numb, feel tight or restrict movement.
Scars are 3 dimensional connecting all the areas which were injured, surgically treated, or explored. Scar tissue can affect joints, internal organs, and nerve function (numbness, sensitivity, or electric/burning sensations).
ScarWork method uses a combination of light touch techniques to stimulate the surrounding tissues to promote the blood and lymphatic supply required to regenerate new cells. Disconnected fascial tissue can be encouraged to re-connect which can improve the texture, feeling, colour, and associated issues surrounding the scar.
Ideally, a series of treatments is most effective. Improvements may be seen or felt after a single treatment but the overall effects can take up to 2 weeks and are generally long-lasting.
Sports Massage Therapy– Level 4
Whilst Sports Massage can be for everyone, it involves deep tissue massage which isn’t always appropriate for someone who has limited mobility or range of movement due to a pain condition or pathology. I always advise this therapy to be more suited to those with muscle soreness and fatigue such as athletes and regular sporty types (including weekend warriors).
Sports Massage Therapy targets, identifies and manipulates tension & adhesions found in soft tissues, reduces post exercise muscle soreness/fatigue and limits the risk of injuries. Like my other treatments (but on a more intense level), this therapy promotes healthy blood flow and flushes soft tissues with essential nutrients which helps to eliminate waste products via the lymphatic system and allow muscles to quickly recover and achieve optimal performance.
BioFeedback Technology
Cutting-edge biofeedback technology provides a reduction in pain and inflammation, boosts the immune system, and shortens the recovery time after surgery, injury or illness. This non-invasive treatment boosts our own natural healing abilities and works to bring the body back into homeostasis. This can be an excellent choice for helping to calm the nervous system to allow the body to relax and ultimately heal.
The therapy can be used with a stand-alone device, with electrodes, or can be incorporated into bodywork.
There are many benefits to be gained from this treatment as it covers a wide range of conditions: – acute/chronic pain, general unwellness, insomnia, fatigue, stress/anxiety, digestive issues, and more.
Reiki
Reiki is a natural healing energy originating from Japan and translates to “universal life energy”. Life energy flows through all living things and when this energy is disrupted, it can cause stress, illness, and disease. In recent times, it has become recognised as a holistic treatment that holds equal importance to that of traditional medicine and is now being used in NHS and private hospitals across the world.
Treatments can bring relief from pain, grief, stress, depression, and emotional imbalance and works to balance and enhance the natural flow of vital energy.
